College Prep

"Now click on the submit button."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"It's too weird."

My oldest threw his hands up in exasperation. "You're too weird," he said. "I'll do it."

"I can't even watch," I said, turning away.

"What's the big deal?" he asked as he submitted his first college application.

"Cat's in the cradle," I sang.

"Mom was afraid this would happen," he said.

You should say that you're avoiding stress at the doctor's recommendation.

Mom was afraid you would start to sing Cat Stevens songs?

I admit that would creep me out a little as well.

start to sing Cat Stevens songs?

Zombie ears degrade at a fast pace.

I guess we can't suggest bourbon and jerky as a soother...

Harry Chapin songs will stop the tears, but also the breathing. Not good from a non-zombie POV.

Like I care. Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, it all drops breathers.

Snag, beware in case the Youngsters give you this as a "gift"

I think you should grab him in a big hug and start weeping every time you see him for the next week or so. Pretty soon I bet he will be weeping too.

I think you need to start every sentence in his earshot with "When Oldest was born...."

The sad part: Snag's son leaving for school.

The happy part: Imagining Snag on campus for the first parent's weekend. Dean Wormer will never know what hit him.

I should zip up there and we can do a duet of "Watching Scotty Grow".
