Broken deals, bitter words and a state shuts down
Talks imploded Thursday between DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders in the final hours before a midnight deadline, and Minnesota began a historic government shutdown.
"This is a night of deep sorrow for me," Dayton said in an address at 10 p.m. that was punctuated by jeers and hisses from Republicans, including some lawmakers.
The governor said his last offer would have raised income taxes only on those earning more than $1 million a year -- an estimated 7,700 Minnesotans, or 0.3 percent of all taxpayers, according to the Revenue Department.
Republicans rejected the proposal, Dayton said, because they "prefer to protect the richest handful of Minnesotans at the expense of everyone else."
Republican leaders made their own statement, saying Dayton's proposal for dealing with the projected $5 billion deficit would cause irreparable harm to the state's economy for generations.

Well, you can tell yourself that it may present a demonstration of what the Republichowderheads are planning to do on a national basis.

"The next generations of over-entitled trust fund Paris Hilton wannabes" they did not add.
You're just in the vanguard of The New America.

And they can't wait to bring what they've done for California (and are doing in other states...Ohio included) national.
Luckily, our national Democrats are standing up tall in the face of this reckless assault...

We're not the place I thought I knew.
There's a surprising number of Americans who harbor intense hatred of their fellow Americans.
I like a good hate as much as the next guy, but blind kids and crime victims?
Bastards.
They should have been born rich. Their fault.
This will only help to serve the interests of the D's come Nov next year..or else the voters are dumber than I thought...which is highly possible on second thought.
Problem is..the R's been planning this shit for two years now. And since they ALL walk in lockstep, it works well for them..until the poor, disabled, elderly and children start going 'without'. Then I hope the shit hits them right between their corporate-lovin eyes.
I predict the shutdown will suddenly be resolved, quite soon.
